Writing is more important than ever, especially because the way we write often determines success in school, college, the community, and the workplace.
The California Writing Project invites you to join us for a day of workshops that will address, but are not limited to, the following issues and topics:
Accelerating the writing improvement of all students—the college-bound, English learners, those in the middle, struggling writers—and preparing them for college and career
Preparing all students to write analytically, academically and engagingly and supporting them to examine the issues they care about in an analytical context
Tapping into digital, multimodal writing, and 21st Century literacies and providing students technological support to improve their inquiry, research, and writing skills
Using formative and summative writing assessments to improve writing and provide students, teachers, and parents information about student progress and writing quality
Engaging students in challenging writing projects that connect with their cultures, communities, and aspirations and foster writing for civic participation and social responsibility
Providing ways for students to go public with their writing and ideas—in print, online, exhibits, public readings, blogs, and digital storytelling.
End the afternoon with a very special writing showcase and celebration of California’s student winners of the 2011 Scholastic Writing Awards and CWP’s I Write the Future! campaign.
Pre-convention registration includes:
Luncheon featuring an early look at CWP’s partnership with the National Writing Project and the Gates-funded Literacy Design Collaborative, focused on developing an open source, online portal of instructional and assessment resources aligned to the new Common Core Standards
Three rounds of workshop choices for middle school, high school, and community college teachers led by CWP teacher leaders
A wealth of curriculum resources and instructional materials
Time to browse and buy California and National Writing Project publications and resources.
